Amazon Announces Kindle Fire

We have known for a while now that Amazon has had a tablet in the works, but it just officially announced it for pre-order today.
Hoping to fill a huge gap in the market between the expensive elitism associated with the iPad, and the tech-savy Android tablets, the 7" Kindle Fire is aimed at everyone who doesn't care about what their CPU clock speed is, or what the version number of their operating system is, but who just want things to work seemlessly. That has been Android's big hurdle with its tablets, and Amazon is pouncing on the opportunity.
Armed with full integration with all of Amazon's services, including cloud storage, the Fire is ready to go out of the box. Running a nearly redesigned version of Android, the Fire can still use Android Apps, but only from the Amazon App Store. It also includes a totally new web browser called Silk, which harnesses Amazon's server horsepower to render and compress pages before they get to you, resulting in lighting-fast web browsing.
And all of this for only $199.
Along for the ride are 2 complete redesigns of the original Kindle 3; the vaguely-named "Kindle", and the Kindle Touch.
